If you are thinking of taking a tour around England, then one of the best ways of doing so is to look at some of the history. England has one of the most fascinating histories in the world, and one of the deepest too, so there is so much to excavate and explore in these terms. Whether or not you are particularly a history buff, there is so much to see that you will find amazing, so it’s well worth it either way. Here are four of the best historical sites in England you may want to visit.
Windsor Castle
England is obviously not short of castles, and it can be hard to know which to visit first if you are keen on seeing one or two. However, in general it’s best to go with the classics, and one of the most-loved castles anywhere in England has to be Windsor Castle. It is a beautiful and truly historic site, and somewhere that you are probably going to be proud to show off to any visitors from overseas too, with its links to royalty still in place. Get your tickets to Windsor Castle today and start planning your trip.
Stonehenge
If you want to go back even further in time, then you may of course want to think about visiting Stonehenge. This is truly a wonder of the world, and it’s one of those places that a lot of people fail to visit because it is so close to home. However, be in no doubt that it is an incredible site, and one that you are probably going to absolutely love, whether or not you are particularly into history. Remember too that you don’t technically have to pay to get in, if you don’t want to.
Hadrian’s Wall
This is one of the greatest remnants of Roman Britain, and an incredible sight that is still one of the best-loved across the country. Hadrian’s Wall was once thought to be an effort to keep the Scots out, but historians now think this is less likely than simply being a way of marking who was coming and going between the North and South. It is a world heritage site, and brings a lot of visitors each year, and it is definitely one of the most interesting places you can find anywhere in England in terms of history.
Bath
This city in the West country is also a remnant of the Romans, but it’s also got a Georgian charm to it that visitors tend to swoon over. What’s more, you can still go and see the traditional baths that give it its name, and it is a great tourist spot that you might certainly want to consider. If you go in December, you might even be able to catch the Christmas markets, which bring thousands of visitors every year for some mulled wine and other such delights.
