WP-reCAPTCHA failure…
Wednesday 24th September, 2008 @ 23:51
So apparently the WP-reCAPTCHA plugin sucks is a little too good and seems to stop anyone from posting comments on my blog. I was going to link to their page but it seems it’s 404′ing which strikes me as somewhat ironic…
If anyone else has a good plugin for Wordpress for avoiding spam then please let me know as being on the Planet seems to result in me being spammed to oblivion.
Also, if you had anything interesting to say about Spore, Phorm or Chrome then please excuse me being a noob and post comments!

captcha is evil, you shouldn’t use it even if it did work.
akismet and badbehavior should do it.

I use the Akismet plugin for stopping spam (there’s no CAPTCHA) and it works great.

If you can find a plugin based on http://snook.ca/archives/other/effective_blog_comment_spam_blocker/ I highly recommend you go for it. Ever since I started using my own derivative of the system I have received NO spam at all since I installed it three months ago. It also make Akismet unneeded–not having to rely on a third-party is always a good thing in case their filters play up (Which they have before).

Akismet is perfect. You just need to have a free wordpress.com account (but do not need to actually use it for blogging).

ReCAPTCHA is cool, I like a challenge when I’m posting. Plus you can also refresh the captcha if you can’t read it. I’m sure it has got more difficult recently though.

Agreed with numerodix, Akismet does the trick for my WordPress weblog as well. Seeing how it is included with WordPress itself, I’m surprised that you don’t use that?

Cheers for all the comments guys, will give them a go.
I already use Akismet but sadly it doesn’t seem to get all my spam, I think I’ll try one of the other simpler non-Ajax ones.
WP-ReCAPTCHA seems to work fine at work, I’m running a custom theme so I guess I just suck at integrating it properly.
